We all want to lose weight and the more we lose, the better we feel about ourselves. If you are a hundred pounds overweight, what would you be prepared to do when it comes to losing weight?

Believe it or not, you may just need a little push to help you achieve this goal. All you have to do is believe in the concept, the goal and in yourself. Weight loss help is for everyone – especially when you have the right weight loss supplement to help you.

Acai berry is a weight loss dietary supplement – it is from the acai palm tree. It contains anti-oxidants, dietary fiber, and monounsaturated fats. This is obviously the best weight loss help you can get.

But how can it make you lose weight anyway?

For one, it helps increase your metabolic rate – the very large amount of anti-oxidants explains this very reason. Therefore, it leads to a faster fat breakdown and at the same time, increasing your energy level.

Help with fat loss is leaning towards you now, so its time to take action. So look for the authentic acai berry in the market – it contains 100% pure Amazonian acai berry extract, so it can not be that cheap. It would usually cost from $40 per bottle of 50.

A money back guarantee must as well be reassured by the vendor – so go get your authentic acai berry now. A hundred pounds is not a joke to lose – you must be equipped with the right diet and the right diet supplement.

Who knows that a year from now, the scale would not scare you anymore! So what are you waiting for woman? You cannot fight fate, but you can only change what you possibly can.

The Lindora Diet is a weight loss program that was created by Dr. Marshall Stamper. This diet originated in the 1970s, and at this point required individuals to visit specific Lindora weight loss centers in California. Recently, the Lindora Diet expanded and now offers online and phone-based diet services

The Premise

The Lindora Diet is also commonly referred to as the Lean for Life Diet. This diet addresses the mental, physical and behavioral aspects of weight loss. To date, the Lindora Diet has helped thousands of children, men and women lose weight permanently. The Lindora Diet promises to help individuals lose 10 pounds or 10% of their body weight in only 10 weeks.

The Diet

The meal plan behind the Lindora Diet focuses on a high protein, very low carbohydrate diet that is based around the notion of ketosis. Ketosis occurs when the body begins to breakdown fat storages for energy instead of carbohydrates. According to Dr. Stamper, this will lead to long-term weight loss.

There are two Lindora diets you can chose to follow, the 10-week program or the 45-day program. Both of these programs have two phases. During the first phase, you will eat very few carbohydrates to force your body into ketosis. During the final two weeks on the diet, you will begin to adjust to more normal eating and slowly bring your body out of ketosis.

On both meal plans, individuals will eat three meals a day plus three protein-rich snacks. The website for the Lindora Diet sells a large selection of foods that are approved for the Lindora Diet.

What to Get Excited About

The Lindora Diet is a medically supervised diet that has a history of success. Additionally, this diet offers several different options from in-clinic to online programs. The website for Lindora sells a large selection of foods and products to support individuals on the Lindora diet.

Things to Consider

The Lindora Diet focuses around the concept of ketosis. According to WebMD, ketosis can cause several health problems, specifically kidney failure. Additionally, during ketosis, the body forms ketones, which can cause kidney stones, gout, nausea and bad breath.

The Lindora Diet does not address exercise. According to the Mayo Clinic, the most effective way to lose weight and maintain weight loss is by combining a healthy lower calorie diet with 30 to 60 minutes of moderate physical exercise most days of the week.

Finally, the Lindora diet is extremely expensive. The clinic-based programs have an introductory fee that can skyrocket as high as $1000. The online 10-week program introductory fee is $99, while the 6-week program introductory fee is $79. Phone coaching ranges from $78 dollars for three sessions to $245 for 10 sessions. In addition to the upfront charge, dieters are recommended to purchase the weight loss starter kit, which costs an additional $39.95

Verdict

If you are willing to pay the cost of the Lindora Diet and you have experienced success with low carbohydrate diets in the past, then the Lindora Diet may help you lose weight. Low carbohydrate diets are not for everyone, and unfortunately it does not appear that the Lindora diet comes with a refund or money back guarantee.

Included among last week’s “Ask Me Anything” responses were several requests for a Primal commentary on acne. A lot of people have asked for this kind of post over the years. The fact is, it’s a great question. Acne is a common problem that gives too many people too much grief. Our medical establishment’s prescription for acne generally involves dehydrating the skin into oblivion, sandblasting it with chemicals, or pumping hormones, antibiotics and potentially toxic meds into the patient. (If any of these methods have worked for you, I mean no offense. I just think people deserve better options than these.) Is there a healthier, more Primal method to a clear complexion? In a nutshell, yes. I’m not talking rabbit-in-a-hat trick but a lifestyle approach with natural options that minimize the systemic and external conditions associated with acne. Let’s look at the full picture.

The Systemic Root

Acne doesn’t have a single definitive cause but can be set in motion by internal and external conditions, all of which have some root in systemic functioning: inflammation, “excessive” sebum (oil) production, pore blockage and “bad” bacterial presence/infection. In large part, the condition of the skin is part and parcel of the body’s overall health. Systemically speaking, hormonal balance (or lack thereof) and associated nutrient levels strongly influence the production of oil, the skin’s vulnerability to invasive bacteria (and presence of “good” defensive bacteria), the natural production and turnover of skin cells, and (of course) underlying inflammation. As hard as it is to believe, the medical community is only this decade beginning to recognize the systemic roots of acne. (Then again, should we really be surprised?)

Now, we all know those folks who eat junk food, exercise once in a blue moon and keep a ridiculous sleep schedule – and yet by some bizarre miracle always have perfect skin. It can seem like a slap in the face to the earnest person who has to work for his/her complexion and still comes up short. (All I can say to this irony is the chickens come home to roost eventually. It’s not metaphysical karma but biological fact. Live a hard and sloppy life, and it will catch up with you at some point, in some way.)

I always say that we’re all cut from the same physiological cloth, and basic biological patterns hold. Nonetheless, subtle differences seem to exist from person to person. Some folks appear to be more vulnerable to acne – hormonal “stages” are a big part of that susceptibility – the teenage years being the most infamous example and early pregnancy or post-pregnancy/nursing being another. Hormonal shifts brought on by stress, exhaustive exercise or medication side effects can also figure into our skin’s condition.

I don’t believe we’re 100% destined to have acne or not, but our susceptibility does appear to vary, and our modern Westernized environment seems to set the stage for that risk. As Loren Cordain’s (and others’) research have shown, acne is ubiquitous in the Western world but limited in other parts of the world and practically unseen in traditional societies. Yet, even Primal folks are subject to acne. What gives exactly? I’d suggest it’s a constellation of influences in modern living that come back to taunt us in the mirror. We live a modern existence full of systemic traps: pollution, personal care products, stress, lack of sleep, and climate controlled living to name a few. Nonetheless, we needn’t sit home on a Friday night.

Systemic Strategies

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty. What lifestyle factors actually make for healthy, clear skin? (We’ll get to other strategies later.) I’m sure you can guess what I’ll say first, and there’s good reason for this suggestion of course. Go Primal! First, the obvious and then some additional tips.

Diet

Ding, ding! Eat an anti-inflammatory diet. As research has shown, even conventional low glycemic diets make for better skin. Understand also that acne can be a manifestation of food related allergies or sensitivities (e.g. yeast, eggs, gluten, lectins). Dairy is a common culprit. (I’ve always said that milk is meant for baby cows.) Women in one study who reported high dairy intake in teenage years were 44% more likely to have experienced severe acne. (Incidentally, full fat dairy isn’t as strongly implicated as lower fat dairy foods.)

Speaking of fat, I suggest that those vulnerable to acne eat plenty of clean fats, and do you can to avoid livestock hormones (the basic reason to avoid milk, which is full of them regardless of organic status). Enjoy clean animal fat and safe, non-oxidized plant-based fats like olive oil, coconut oil, etc. And be sure to load up on antioxidant-rich produce items as well, like garlic, onions, greens and broccoli that support cellular production and repair.

Supplementation

Beyond the power of a clean, anti-inflammatory diet, I suggest adding a good comprehensive supplement as well as extra zinc, vitamin B complex (especially vitamin B3), vitamin A and vitamin D for added help in regulating oil production and further boosting the skin’s natural repair abilities. Research has especially supported the role of zinc deficiency in acne. Women who are pregnant, nursing or have recently weaned are particularly at risk because of higher need for zinc. Of course, make sure you get plenty of omega-3s for extra anti-inflammatory effect. Some folks report good experiences with adding evening primrose, an anti-inflammatory omega-6 as well. Finally, a good probiotic can help your body (and skin) balance its own “good” bacterial defenses.

Environmental Toxins

Chemicals like flame retardants, parabens, phthalates and other plastic-related chemicals are hormone disruptors, which can throw off even the best lifestyle efforts. Eliminate them as much as you practically can (including the paraben-loaded conventional acne creams!).

Stress and Sleep

Stress causes a cascade of hormonal actions that over time deplete essential nutrient stores, especially minerals like zinc. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing! Consider it an investment in your appearance as well as overall health. Additionally, take up stress management methods that support the relaxation response to further support hormonal balance.

Topical, Hygienic and Commonsensical Ideas

Beyond systemic strategies, there are plenty of topical options that are effective for many but tend to be more hit and miss overall. I think it’s important to view their role as supplementary to systemic efforts. From a personal perspective, I understand people being willing to try anything and everything they find – at the doctor’s office, at the drug store, on the infomercials. From a Primal perspective, however, I’d suggest otherwise. The idea shouldn’t be to beat your skin into submission. Most people who have acne actually have very sensitive skin. Rather than looking for products that strip and dry the skin, I’d recommend choices that enhance the integrity of the skin and its natural defenses. There are plenty of natural options that won’t clean out your wallet and that promise fewer side effects to boot. Here are a few of Primal note….

Manuka honey: All honey has antibacterial properties, but research shows this New Zealand variety appears to pack more of a punch for acne and other skin conditions.

Nicotinamide: A topical form of vitamin B3 can reduce inflammation and help acne and improve skin’s overall condition.

Willow bark: It packs an anti-inflammatory wallop.

Tea tree oil: Consider it a more natural astringent that has a powerful antibacterial impact.

Other botanicals like calendula and feverfew can be soaked and spread over the face with a cotton ball after washing in order to calm skin.

Steaming: Visit the steam room at the gym or lean over a pot of hot water with a towel draped around your face to open pores for a good cleansing, natural oil extraction or absorption of botanical agents.

Light exfoliants: Use baking soda or oatmeal to exfoliate and encourage skin turnover, but go gentle.

Pure water: Those with the worst skin conditions like severe acne or rosacea can benefit from rinsing with distilled rather than tap water.

Practical prevention: Minimize bacteria exposure to the face by keeping hands away from the face, cleaning phones, helmets, etc., and using fresh pillowcases (thanks, Shastagirl!)

The idea here is a holistic approach to supporting healthy skin. Although these suggestions might not serve as a magic bullet, they are the best way to get at the root causes of the physiological imbalances behind acne. Furthermore, the natural topical options can support your lifestyle efforts without depleting skin of its natural moisture or defenses and without creating product dependence. Finally, these suggestions can support the overall health and condition of your skin whether or not you have complexion issues. I hope the overview offers those with acne good food for thought and encouragement in their personal Primal regimens.

What say you, MDA community? How did going Primal change your skin? What other strategies and products (natural or otherwise) do you use that complement your Primal efforts? Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts today.

Following the same basic exercises over and over again, is not only boring, but it will eventually lead to a plateau. That’s why I’m excited to share with you part 1 of the interview I did with the Mad Scientist, Nick Nilsson.

Click here to listen to the full interview

Nilsson, a friend and fitness expert, has a knack for taking the most basic of exercises and applying a neat little twist to explode your results. Whether it be for fat loss or gaining muscle, Nilsson is opening the lab, so stick around as there’s a lot to be learned…

*********************

Craig Ballantyne: Why don’t you tell us a little about your training background and how you got into doing the exercises that are so unique?

Nick Nilsson: Sure. I’ve been training about 18 years now, so probably about half my life, I’ve been at it. I have a degree in Exercise Physiology and degree also in Psychology, which doesn’t really match at all. I’ve been a personal trainer for the last 10 years, and I’ve been doing a lot of online stuff.

What really got me into inventing these screwball exercises is my dad….

When I was a kid growing up, I thought it was perfectly normal to have a basement gym made entirely out of plumbing pipe. That’s what kind of liberated me from feeling that I had to follow the straight up exercises as it was laid out before.

So, as I got into training more and more I started coming up with some twists on exercises, and I went with that. I found the more I tried to adjust things the better results I got. A lot of exercises that I come up with target the muscles much better than the standard kind of exercises.

Not to say that the basic stuff doesn’t work, but sometimes a little twist can make them work a whole lot better.

Craig Ballantyne: When did you first start changing your exercises? Were you doing that right off the start or did you get into that a little later after you got bored with traditional exercises?

Nick Nilsson: It was probably within the first year of my training. When I first started into it I had basically followed just the normal exercises. Those were great and they got me results, so I didn’t feel any real need to change things up.

But, as I was reading more and more and seeing how other people were changing things up, I thought, “I can do that too.” With the background I had in training and my dad’s basement gym to muck around, I just started messing around with things and adjusting them.

As I learned more Kinesiology and Biomechanics, I started developing a better grasp of how to change things to be more effective. So, as I was adjusting things on the fly sometimes I’d just come up with things as I’m doing the exercise.

Just making these little adjustments on the fly and twisting things around I was thinking OUTSIDE the box. I really realized that there’s something to this. This isn’t just all about making new exercises for the sake of not being bored; this is new stuff for the sake of better results. That’s kind of the key that I was going after.

Craig Ballantyne: All right. Can you give us a couple of your first classic ones that you came up with that are really good just to give them a taste of what you’re doing different? Then we’ll go through how you actually come up with this.

Nick Nilsson: Absolutely. One of the very first ones I did, I named it after myself. I call it a Nilsson Curler. Basically, it’s a bicep exercise, but it looks almost exactly like a chin up.

The difference with this one is you’re actually bracing your forearms against something so that your forearms can’t move as you’re doing a chin up. You can picture this one, let’s say you’re on a playground, and you grab a straight up and down ladder. Grab the top rung and the next rung down you’ll brace your forearms against.

Now, in that position you do a chin up. Because your forearms are braced, they can’t move forward. This basically throws all the tension onto your biceps while you’re doing the chin up. So, you can imagine putting 90 percent of your bodyweight onto your biceps. You’re going to get some pretty SERIOUS RESULTS from that.

That one really opened my eyes up. It was one of the very first ones I came up with that really was like, “WOW. This is just amazing stuff. Maybe I can do this for a lot of exercises and figure out ways to make new stuff work.”

Craig Ballantyne: Can you do that with dumbbells?

Nick Nilsson: No, not that particular exercise. You really need a rack or I’ve seen people do it with the side of the rack. You take the two rails , the rack and put them just like ladder rungs, or take a bar and put another bar on the safety rails and brace your arms that way.

If you want to add weight you can put a dumbbell between your feet. But, as far as bracing your forearms and doing a dumbbell curl like that, I haven’t really thought of a way to do that.

Craig Ballantyne: What are some of your favorite dumbbell exercises? I know we have members who are working out at home just with a very small amount of equipment. So, what are some of the coolest dumbbell exercises you have for upper body that you’ve tooled around with?

Nick Nilsson: One of my favorite ab exercises actually is one that if you do it in a gym it’s going to make people think that you’re absolutely insane.

It’s Dumbbell Crawling….

Basically, you’re on your hands and knees, but in your hands you have a couple of dumbbells. So, you crawl forward, not on your knees but on your feet kind of like a Spiderman movement, except you’re holding dumbbells in your hand. So, you’re walking forward on these dumbbells.

Let me tell you. If you’ve never done any kind of movements that put torque on your abs this one is just going to open your eyes up, because you basically take crawling forward and then crawling backwards, and each time you step you’re moving those dumbbells forward. It puts a lot of cross tension on your abs.

Craig Ballantyne: How much weight are you using in that?

Nick Nilsson: I’d say start light. I’ve worked my way up to 100 pound dumbbells.

Craig Ballantyne: Okay.

Nick Nilsson: That one is a killer, and it’s one of my favorites. As far as a good chest one, let me see, I’ll think of a really good one here. Not that they’re all bad, but some are just better than others.

A trick that I like to use when I’m doing dumbbell bench press, for instance, is when I’m coming to the end of a set and this is done while you’re doing dumbbell bench press on the Swiss Ball and you’re starting to get to that last rep where you’re kind of fighting for it….

You basically focus on moving one dumbbell, and then you focus on moving the other dumbbell and you kind of ratchet your way up until you’re right at the top. You can actually squeeze out one or two more reps off of that even at the end of a really hard set.

Craig Ballantyne: What is it that allows you to come up with these exercises? Going back to that ab one, you’re sitting there, what were you thinking, what exercise where you working on before you said, “What if I maybe throw in some resistance here and change this exercise completely?”

With the chest one, I guess you’re doing dumbbell presses quite a lot, so you can always think about ways of doing that. But, for some of the more advanced ones or unique ones, what’s the impetus to get you started on that?

Nick Nilsson: A lot of the times it’s really something completely unrelated.

Like for that ab exercise, I can tell you exactly where I came up with it. I was getting ready to put weights back onto the dumbbell rack and I was kind of leaning over.

I moved one forward and I was kind of in that crawl position and I just felt it immediately in my abs. I thought, “If this happens just when I’m moving the weights, I wonder what if I turned this into an actual exercise and focused on that.” So, immediately turned around and started crawling forward with these dumbbells and I just about lost my lunch.

It was an AMAZING ab exercise. I was holding 100 pound dumbbells at the time and I wouldn’t recommend starting that high, but the first time I ever did them that’s exactly what happened. It was a total accident. I thought, “If it feels like this when I’m just doing this by accident, what if I focus on doing this on purpose?”

A lot of what I come up with that’s how I do it. I’ll be doing something completely unrelated and just right off the top of my head I’ll think, “I feel it here, but kind of by accident. What happens if I try and focus on maximizing that movement by doing it on purpose here with a different apparatus or a different exercise?”

Sometimes you come up with some pretty amazing stuff. Next up in part 2, learn what makes your workout effective for muscle building.

Want to lose some pounds really fast? Just about anyone can lose weight fast simply by using the best, most-efficient fat loss techniques and combining them in a focused manner.
Here are 7 “secrets” for losing weight in a fast, safe, and healthy way…

1. Natural Energy Boosters

Having lots of a energy gives you a big advantage when it comes to losing weight quickly.
2. Calorie Cycling

Calorie cycling — AKA calorie shifting — is a proven way to speed up the metabolism and allow you to eat larger amounts of calories every few days. This can help you avoid the food cravings that often force people to give up on their diets.

6. The Big 3 Supplements

Meet Allan Hoffman, 35 years old, starting weight 555 lbs, uses a wheelchair to get around, has a fractured vertebrae in his lower back and it’s fair to say he had a very difficult childhood. He’s struggled with his weight forever, battles depression and over the past 10 years his weight has gone from 305 to 555 lbs. Talk about having to overcome some challenges! His doctor said he should have gastric bypass surgery to lose the weight. Enter the exerspy and the dotFIT team.

It must have been fate because Allan reunited with a half-brother he never knew he had, who happens to be one of dotFIT’s team members. Allan gets an exerspy, a few phone coaching sessions and starts using the dotFIT Me program to shed the weight. With his physical limitations, we had to start slow. Fast forward three months and he’s dropped 62 pounds. Here’s the strategy we used:

Identify WHY you want to lose so you stick to the process. Allan’s motivation was twofold – 1) meet his biological father face-to-face for the first time this summer and 2) see his 6 year old son graduate from high school. He keeps a picture of his son on his computer to keep him focused.

Set realistic and achievable goals. Allan’s ultimate goal is to weigh 210 lbs so we set him up to lose 2-3 pounds a week.

Give him visible targets to hit daily so he sees progress every day. Using the dotFIT Me program an exerspy – his daily calorie burn target was approximately 4300 calories (remember, the heavier you are, the more you burn). His daily calorie intake goal was about 2800 calories. When he hits those targets, he loses weight. Period.

Log everything you eat. Becoming conscious of what goes in your mouth is the first step towards making better decisions and Allan was prone to mindlessly eat.

Increase physical activity. Do upper body exercises using cans for hand weights and leg lifts as he sits in his wheelchair. Work up to 5 minutes of physical activity per day. The exerspy tracks this so he knows whether he reaches this daily goal.

Eat more fiber-rich foods. Get 25 grams a day to start and track in using the online food log.

As you can see – a few simple adjustments repeated over time has produced AMAZING results. No diets. No drastic workouts or magic cleanses. Just practical changes anyone can do and a bit of encouragement and guidance along the way.

The Makers Diet is a health plan based upon principles set forth in the Bible. It’s aim is not only to help you lose weight, but also to detoxify your body and bring about a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle. By choosing foods which assist your internal system and eliminating those that only cause disease and hinder well-being this goal can be accomplished. The main focus of this diet is nutrition, but these nutritional suggestions are pointed toward what is referred to as the four pillars of health: physical, spiritual, mental and emotional.

The Makers Diet

The Makers Diet consists of a 40-day program designed to retrain your body to enjoy healthy eating, and to detoxify any remnants of old habits and bodily malfunctions or disease that do not benefit your life. This process is encouraged by explaining the benefits of fresh and organic fruit, meat and vegetables and discouraging processed and packaged foods, and foods that may contain pesticides and other chemicals. In addition to making better food choices, the diet warns against eating any foods that aren’t considered pure, such as shellfish, pork and bacon. It also teaches you to become more aware of your feelings so that you can avoid eating when sad, anxious, angry or otherwise emotional.

Supplements

The Makers Diet encourages the use of natural and herbal supplements to gain your way back to a healthy weight and lifestyle. The creator of the diet, Jordan Rubin, offers a line of these supplements available for purchase to enhance your health experience. The supplements offered are branded as Garden of Life and may work with your new food plan to assist you in achieving overall well-being. Anytime herbs, vitamins and supplements are involved, you must be responsible and conduct your own research to discover the actual health benefits of each herb. Herbs and other all-natural supplements can be extremely beneficial for some health problems, but relying on such supplements for a lifetime can produce the reverse effect. When used in moderation and aimed specifically at problem areas within your body, you can be almost certain your health will improve.

The Controversy

As with any diet fad or trend on the market, there is quite a bit of controversy following Rubin’s Makers Diet. One issue that some people have surrounds his suggestion for supplementing your food intake with herbs and natural remedies from his Garden of Life brand of products. While this does fall under the principles of good marketing, herbs and natural supplements can be extremely beneficial when used properly. Secondly, people who are of different faiths may be uncomfortable with the name of the diet and some of the ideas presented in the book. Keep in mind that no matter where or how the ideas are generated, if a diet is centered around eating fresh foods, avoiding chemical-ridden and processed junk and observing your body to discover what herbs may be of benefit, there’s absolutely no way anyone can go wrong.

This article on the 3 secrets to faster recovery from muscle injury is another great article to print out and file!

But first, confession time.

Despite everything we know, old meatheads like me and Jason Ferruggia still “overdo things” and end up hurting ourselves in the gym.

But I’m lucky, because I just pull muscles (like I did last Monday while deadlifting). Jay, on the other hand, messes up his shoulder joint at least once per year.

Now when you have a serious injury like Jay’s, you have to go to the doctor. There is nothing that I can do to help you – sorry!

NOTE #1 – I hope you never, ever get hurt!

NOTE #2 – If you do get hurt, the most important thing for you to do is get your injury checked out by a doctor. Please be conservative!

But when I get a little muscle strain, I just use these 3 simple secrets for fast recovery. These secrets were given to me by my chiropractor, Dr. Michael Sommers of Evolve Chiropractic in Toronto.

1) Apply Ice immediately

Start by icing for ten minutes, then take ten minutes off, and then ice again for ten minutes.

(NOTE: Keep a thin moist towel between ice and skin to prevent skin damage.)

Ice the injury 3 times daily for the first 72 hours (morning, noon, and night). Of course, if the injury is severe, go immediately to the hospital.

2) Perform frequent, low-intensity activation of the injured muscle

Dr. Sommers says, “You want to start the healing process by moving the muscle through very low intensity movements, and doing this frequently in the early period after injury.”

This low-intensity exercise keeps blood flowing throughout the muscle and prevents over-shortening during recovery.

For example, if you have a sore hamstring, Dr. Sommers suggests, “walking and doing low intensity leg swings will help recovery. But don’t do anything that involves too much exertion.”

(NOTE: If you aren’t sure what to do, ask your therapist…more about their role in secret #3 below.)

Personally, I also add in light, frequent stretching for the sore muscle. I’ll do one light 20-second stretch every hour or two, and that seems to help me.

3) See a therapist immediately…preferably someone skilled in A.R.T. (Active Release Techniques)

According to Dr. Sommers, “For most soft-tissue injuries A.R.T. is the best therapy to reduce scar-tissue build-up and to promote ideal muscle length through the healing process.”

“While other therapies can provide relief (ultrasound and TENS may have some effect), A.R.T combined with specific stretching and exercise seems to heal the tissue in the shortest to time with the lowest incidence of re-injury,” says Dr. Sommers.

In addition to getting A.R.T. treatment, a great therapist will give you a professional advice/assessment to gauge an appropriate time to return to training.

As Dr. Sommers says, “Re-injury is commonplace with weight training. Without the proper guidance it is all to easy to re-aggravate soft tissue injuries and triple the amount of time it will take to heal.”

Now I may push too hard in the gym, but I’m at least smart enough to stop pushing once the injury has occurred. And I’m also smart enough to go in for treatment ASAP after the injury has happened.

Dr. Sommers says, “Injuries rarely resolve on their own. Especially if the improper technique continues. Lifting through pain is a recipe for chronic injury and the sooner you are properly diagnosed and treated the more likely you can expect a quicker return to pain-free activity.”

So don’t try to “avoid” a nagging injury.

It’s better that you take 2 days off now rather than being forced to
take 2 months off in the future.

Train safe and listen to your health professional!

To find an A.R.T. practitioner in your area, simply google, “Active Release Techniques + Your area”

**********************

Those are the 3 most important secrets for healing fast, however I have a few more tips for you.

- Nutrition

I believe that nutrition plays a huge role in recovering from injury.

Dr. Sommers agrees, saying, “Certain foods promote inflammation within the body’s various systems while others have an anti-inflammatory effect.

“Avoiding pro-inflammatory foods (nightshade vegetables, white processed flour, and deep fried foods) and eating a diet rich in omega 3 fatty acids can only help speed up the healing process.”

(For those who don’t know: Potatoes, tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, paprika, cayenne, and Tabasco sauce are classified as nightshade foods.)

Personally, I recommend eating a diet of at least 10+ servings of fruits and vegetables per day. This should provide your body with the best healing environment. At worst, at least limit your intake of sugar, western diet, comfort food, etc., that promotes inflammation in the body.

I recommend my Simple Nutrition plan for fat loss & recovery:

– Listen To Your Body

Dr. Sommers says, “Each of us has to consider our own particular ability in trying to train safely. Fortunately our bodies are amazing communicators. They give us warning signs when we’re verge of injury. Unusual aches and pains lasting longer than 48 hours should be taken seriously and all training should cease until it is deemed safe to continue.”

Be conservative!

Recovery As You Get Older

“Finally,” Dr. Sommers says, “Don’t forget that older bodies take longer to heal. Older muscle fiber requires longer recovery time, so whether it comes to recovering from heavy workouts or working through nagging tendon problems, age plays an important factor in return to activity planning.”

Be conservative!

Please forward this information on recovery from injury to your friends and family.

To your health & healing,

While there is no reason to panic about eating white rice in moderation, if it’s a diet staple there could be something to be concerned about.

Harvard researchers are pointing to the considerable benefits of switching from white to brown rice, particularly how it relates to preventing diabetes. They are saying by making the easy switch to brown rice, you can cut your diabetes risk by a third.

White rice creates the strong possibility of developing diabetes since it causes spikes in blood sugar levels. In the study of nearly 200,000 Americans, eating white rice was linked to type 2 diabetes.

The researchers came up with a calculation of how brown rice could reduce diabetes rates. They estimated that replacing one-third of a normal serving of white rice with the same amount of brown rice would lead to a lowering of the risk of type 2 diabetes by 16 percent.

Since brown rice is a whole grain food, it is high in fiber and releases its energy slowly, avoiding the sugar spike. But since white rice has had all the bran and some of the germ removed during milling, it has a higher glycemic index (GI). The glycemic index is a measure of how much a food raises blood sugar levels.
